Back in 2012, I had caught wind of a Michigan committee meeting where a woman present uttered “vagina” as it related to the discussion at hand, causing the male members present to accuse her of being inappropriate. Or something like that. I do not have the patience to search for the facts of this inciting incident that led to the creation of this extremely viral patch slogan of mine:
VAGINA
MAYBE SHE’S BORN
WITH IT
MAYBE IT’S NONE OF
YOUR BUSINESS
This was back when Bebas Neue was something of a new font, available for free via Google Fonts and elsewhere. Not having the money or resources to pay for design resources in those days, I wore this font face outtttt.
Obviously, a play on the famous Maybelline slogan, I made it punk rock and screenprinted it on cotton patches and pins, selling them at zine fests and Etsy.
I also posted it to my Tumblr, which had many many followers and which my friends claimed was famous, a statement I tended to question and deny. These were the nascent days of unattributed viral posts, and more than a few people assumed I was raking in the dough with patch sales the way this image made its rounds on Tumblr and Instagram.

MY OTHER BODY IS IN THE SHOP was less viral, but when friends sent me this image of actor Kristen Stewart on her day off, asking if this was one of my creations, I could only laugh and say, alas, no.
